Video killed the Radio star!
Remember that song from the 70’s by the Buggles, Video killed the radio star? It was about the effects of technology on our lives. That’s even more true now that over 90% of all internet traffic will be video by 2019.
But are you capitalizing on this? Make sure you’re getting on the video bandwagon. It is not a passing fad, it’s here to stay. Video is an area that small businesses, entrepreneurs and solopreneurs can capitalize on. You can use your smartphone and record a video live or make a few edits and post it. Not to mention that it doesn’t have to be a long video either.
On Instagram, video clips are allowed from three seconds to 60 seconds. When you’re creating a video for Instagram, go something short, something fun, something to attract your ideal customers to your business.
Videos quickly build the trust factor. As they watch your videos, your audience gets to know you, like you, and then they get to trust you much faster than simply reading, posting just individual pictures.
Video helps turn potential customers into customers much faster than traditional marketing.
3 Second Rule
You’ll notice that when you scroll through Instagram, videos play almost instantaneously, so people don’t even have to click on them to get it to play. They’re scrolling through and they see something that catches their attention, they’re going to stop.
This is why you need to make sure the first three seconds of your video really pulls them in, and really pops and draws their attention to it, so that they’ll stop on your video and take a further look.
What to record or live stream
There are any number of things that you can do in your video.
- Behind the scenes. Lots of people love getting behind the scenes tips where they feel like they are the only ones getting that information. It’s not something that’s out there about every single company, and they get to feel they are a part of you and your business.
- Specific service or products. Show off how they work, and how it is unique and different.
- Answer questions. Look at your frequently asked questions on your social media and emails, and make a list of the questions that you seem to get quite often. Do a video answering those FAQ’s.
Look Mom, No Hands!
Make sure you are using the hands-free feature of Instagram video. You used to actually have to hold down on the button the entire time you’re recording and that can be a pain. Now you can tap the record button to start and tap it to stop, but you need to be in hands-free mode for it to work.
Add a little Text to your Instagram Video!
Make sure that you add text to your video. Lots of followers will scroll through their feed and not listen to the video, so you need to make sure you give them a call to action typed on the video.
There are numerous free apps that you can use to add text to your video and pictures. The best thing to do is test some of them out and find what works best for you.
