Where do I start?
That’s a question I often get asked and is usually the barrier as to why many small businesses put off making videos to promote their businesses. That’s what this blog is all about. We’re going to go over my five steps to plan your small business marketing video so you can jump into the deep end!
Step 1 – Have a Goal
I’ve talked about this in a recent post where I gave you tips for your equipment you should consider. You need to have an end goal in mind when you plan your video. It’s really important because everything else from your video is going to center around what your end goal is for your video. Notice that is NOT plural!
Notice goal is NOT plural! You want one thing from your viewers. If you want several things out of them, it can get too confusing and it’s best to stick to one per video.
You can have any number of goals that you want your subscribers to do, including purchase your product or service, increase your subscribers on your email list, follow you on social media, and much more! Just decide what you want that end goal to be so that you can focus on that for your video.
Step 2 – Solve a Problem
Your video should solve a problem that your customer has. Your products and your services are a solution for someone else’s problem. It doesn’t have to be glamorous and is often something they can do, but prefer to outsource in order to focus on their primary business. For instance, some people think bookkeeping is a tedious task, but it must be done so they prefer to outsource it!
Your products and your services are a solution for someone else’s problem.
Step 3 – Keywords
You want to come up with a list of about 5 keywords or phrases to use in your video. This will help you get found on Google! Try using Google Keyword Planner.
Use keywords that don’t have a really high competition because you want to get the low hanging fruit. Try to think like your customers and what words or phrases they would search to find your business.
Don’t forget to use your main keyword in your video title.
Step 4 – Get on with it!
My fourth step to planning your marketing video is to simply get on with it. The first six seconds of your video is crucial because that’s the time frame that your potential customers, clients are going to at that point either say I want to continue watching or stop. Six seconds, that’s the time point that they say I’m bored and move on or continue and watch what you have to say.
The first six seconds of your video is crucial. This is when someone watching decides if they want to continue or if they’re bored and moving on.
Talk about their problem you are solving, hit their pain point and tell them you are going to provide a solution to it. You can even make it something fun and funny at the beginning to draw them in.
Step 5 – Take Action
This fifth step for planning your marketing video goes back to the first step. Your video has a goal, what you want your viewers to do. Now is the time to get your viewers to take action.
If you want them to buy your product or service, send them to your sales or landing page. Make sure that your contact information is there in case they want more information before their purchase. You can even include a video on this page talking more about your product or service.
If you want them to join your email list, make sure to give them a freebie item that is related and provides even more information than the video. Link to the signup form for them to give their email in order to get the freebie.
You’re ready to record!
Now it’s time to plan and record your video! Remember that it doesn’t have to be perfect.
