What is Curated Content?
Have you ever heard of curated content and wondered exactly what it is, why you would use it, and how you would use it in your social media strategy?
Curated content is sharing other people’s content. I am going to focus on doing this by using it in your social media strategy.
What Should you Curate?
The type of content you should search for to curate includes industry news, different tools that people are using in your industry, interviews and much more. I love sharing fun videos and images and they can be especially engaging you are in the pet industry. Who doesn’t like a good dog video?
But I want MY Own Content!!
You might be wondering why exactly you should share someone else’s content when you want to focus all of your attention on your own created content. You definitely want created content, but you also want to include curated content in your social media strategy.
There are so many different things that people have created out there that you can use to “borrow” engagement. By this I mean sharing their content, not putting it out as yours. Putting it out as your own is plagiarism and not only will get you into trouble, but it’s unethical.
Time is Money!
While you should also include created content (I’ll be discussing this more in a future post), having enough created content can really take up a huge amount of time that you really need to be spending on your business.
This is another great reason for curated content. You can consistently add content to your social media strategy, even if you don’t have dozens of current blog articles to share.
How to Curate
Simply “share” it. You can copy the link of what you want to share and paste it into the social media platform or your social media scheduler.
The important thing is to not simply copy, paste and be done. You should add a comment that might relate to your business or ask people for their thoughts. This can boost engagement.
For instance, if there is a funny video of a dog being silly, you can ask who else has a dog that acts like that. Ask them to share a picture of their dog in the comments. I’m sure they have 1 or 2 (thousand!) on their phone to post. 😊
Now that you know about content curation, let me know in the comments below, how do you plan to incorporate it into your social media strategy?
